Bowdoin College to award honourary degree to Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie has been announced as one of three people who will receive honorary degrees from Bowdoin College at its 213th Commencement exercises on Saturday, May 26th.

Adichie is set to receive the award alongside American chemist and Nobel laureate Thomas R Cech and former American diplomat and government official, Susan E Rice.

The announcement comes less than two weeks after the Half of a Yellow Sun author was honoured with a Barnes & Noble Writers for Writers Awards. Adichie has also been a recipient of an honorary doctorate award from the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.

Bowdoin College is a private liberal arts college located in Brunswick, Maine, and was rated one of the top three liberal arts school in 2017.

A statement from the college’s website reads: “This year’s honorary degree recipients are MacArthur genius grant and Nigerian-born author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.”
