17-year-old Ballou High School School sophomore, James Anthony Smith was shot and killed Monday in Washington, DC.  His mother believes it was all, over a pair of bright red Christmas Nike Air Jordan’s.

All James wanted for Christmas was the $220 red J’s and his mother decided to give it to him as an early Christmas gift, the Washington Post reports.

James was shot and killed on a basketball court at the Frederick Douglas Community Center.

His mother believes whoever killed her son took the sneakers because he was found on the street shoeless. He died two hours later at a hospital.

He was an all-American kid,” his mother says to the Post. “He loved his red shoes. He loved basketball.

He loved his computer games…  I can’t believe he was killed, all over a pair of shoes,” she adds.

James was only able to enjoy the shoes for four days.

RIP.
