Matchday two has proved that the UEFA Champions League is totally unpredictable, no one could have possibly have foreseen all the drama and controversy.

Football fans all over the World were left in shock when Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off in the first half for pulling Valencia defender Murillo’s hair, while Lyon managed a 2-1 over Manchester city.

Here’s a full low down of what happened on matchday two. Meanwhile, if you missed Tuesday’s summary, we have you covered.

Let’s get into it.

Group E: Ajax Vs AEK Athens

Ajax had a relatively easy game against AEK Athens, dominating 60% of total possession and leaving with a comfortable 3-0 victory.

The opening goal came in the 46th minute when Tagliafico finished well from a David Neres assist.

Donny Van de Beek also added his name to the score sheet with a Tadic assist in the 77th minute before Tagliafico sealed the deal with a 90th-minute goal from a Carel Eiting assist.

Group E: Benfica Vs Bayern Munich

This was not a match with many talking points. Robert Lewandowski opened the scoring early in the 10th minute of the game from an Alaba assist.

Sanches later took advantage of a James Rodriguez assist in the 54th minute to give Bayern a comfortable 2-0 win.

Group F: Shakhtar Donetsk Vs Hoffenheim

Shakhtar and Hoffenheim drew a stalemate as neither team was able to leave with three points following a tough competition.

Hoffenheim opened the scoring with a goal in the 6th minute from Grillitsch but Shakhtar soon replied with a goal of their own in the 27th minute.

Hoffenheim again took the lead in the 38th minute with a goal from Nordtveit assisted by Kramaric but a late goal from Maycon in the 81st minute levelled the match up again.

Group F: Man City Vs Lyon

Man City suffered their first loss of the season in this fixture as Lyon’s Cornet finished off a beautiful assist from Fekir.

Fekir later proved to be a thorn in the side of Man City when he scored a wonderful goal from outside the box 18 in the 42nd minute.

City managed to pull one back with the help of Bernado Silva and an assist from Sane in the 66th minute to end the game at 2-1.

Group G: Real Madrid Vs Roma

Real Madrid showed that they can prevail in the Champions League without the help of Cristiano Ronaldo with a beautiful display.

The Los Blancos went ahead in the 44th minute when Isco scored a wonderful direct freekick, there was nothing the keeper could have possibly done.

Another goal came in the 58th minute from a Modric Bale combination. Modric put the Welshman through on goal and he finished it superbly in to prove that he remains in top form.

It seemed like it was all over but Mariano Diaz still wanted to have his say, the new number 7 came off the bench to net a 90+1 minute GOLAZO on his Champions League debut for the Los Blancos.

Group G: Viktoria Plzen Vs CSKA Moskva

Viktoria Plzen and CSKA Moskva split points in this fixture after Moskva managed to pull off a dramatic comeback.

Michal Krmencik scored two first-half goals to put Plzen ahead but Chalov pulled one back for Moskva in the 49th minute and just when it seemed as though all hope was lost Vlasic put away a penalty in the dying minuted of the game to complete the comeback.

Group H: Young Boys Vs Manchester United

Paul Pogba showed just how much of an asset he is to Manchester United, scoring two and assisting one to give the Red Devils a comfortable 3-0 win over Young Boys.

He opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a shot that gave the keeper no hope of catching the ball, he then converted a penalty that arose from a handball call in the 44th minute before setting Martial up for the last goal in the 77th minute of the game.

Group H: Valencia Vs Juventus

The most controversial fixture of matchday two. Ronaldo was looking sharp as ever in his favourite competition, the Champions league but the referee soon took all his optimism and converted into tears when he showed him a red card as early as the 29th minute of the game.

Football pundits all over agree that the decision to give Ronaldo a red card was rather harsh especially since he simply pulled Murillo’s hair clearly as a way of telling him to get up, many are of the opinion that the incident does not even warrant a card at all!

Here’s a clip that shows what exactly happened:
