According to News.au, Nancy Crampton-Brophy allegedly shot her husband of 27 years, Daniel, in June. He was found dead in the Oregon Culinary Institute in Portland, USA.
Crampton-Brophy was arrested on suspicion of murder on 5 September and police are yet to reveal how they identified her as a suspect in her partner’s death.
The since-deleted essay offered advice like not using a hitman or a lover to do the deed as they are inclined to confess to the police. She also advised against poison as it traceable.
Part of the essay reads: “As a romantic suspense writer, I spend a lot of time thinking about murder and, consequently, about police procedure. After all, if the murder is supposed to set me free, I certainly don’t want to spend any time in jail.”
Her other works also dealt with murder. In one of her books, The Wrong Husband, a woman tries to leave an abusive spouse by faking her death. In another – The Wrong Cop – she wrote about a woman who spent every day of her marriage fantasising about killing her husband.
Crampton-Brophy remains in jail in lieu of bond and has also been charged with unlawful use of a weapon.
