He was found guilty back in April of drugging and assaulting Andrea Constand in his home while he was her mentor. During the sentencing, the judge declared Bill Cosby as a sexually violent predator and ruled that he would have to register as a sex offender.
A total of five women came forward to testify including Andrea Constand, model, Janice Dickinson and Chelan Lasha.
The 81-year-old was charged with three counts of aggravated indecent assault which carry up to ten years in prison each. The judge combined them as is allowed when they stem from the same case.
Cosby’s publicist declared outside the courthouse that it was the most racist and sexist trial in the history of the United States. His lawyers have also said the verdict would be appealed.
His wife, who stood by him throughout the proceedings, also spoke against the sentencing, accusing the district attorney of “egregious injustices.”
In a victim statement, Andrea Constand wrote:
“Bill Cosby took my beautiful, healthy young spirit and crushed it. He robbed me of my health and vitality, my open nature, and my trust in myself and others.
I’ve never married and I have no partner. I live alone. My dogs are my constant companions, and the members of my immediate family are my closest friends….Thank you to all of the friends, old and new, who have stood by me.
You know who you are, and each and every one of you has made a huge difference. Please know that.”
