Nigerian musician and social activist Charles Oputa, popularly known as Charly Boy and sometimes as Area Fada, has lost his mum, Margaret Ntianu Oputa.
A statement issued on social media by Charly Boy stated Mrs Oputa died on Tuesday 8th October 2019. The cause of death was not revealed.
In a moving tribute to his mum, Charly Boy says his mum “tried” for him and for “many of the people who were privileged to encounter your kindness and your love.”
He also expresses gratitude to her for having born him and for teaching him how “how to care, to love, to live a simple and humble life.”
Charly Boy, who was abroad when the sad event took place, also expressed regrets that he couldn’t be there at his mum’s last hours. He says:
“I wish you would have waited just one more day, but I guess you didn’t want me to see you go, because as usual, I would have talked you out of it.”
Charly Boy also asks his mum to extend his greetings to his father, the late Justice Chukwudifu Oputa, who died on 4 May 2014. “Greet Papa when you see him, tell him I have been holding forth,” he says.
He ends his tribute with an RIP for his mother.
