Tillerson was sacked by the US president, Donald Trump, on Tuesday via a tweet. Trump also named CIA boss Mike Pompeo as a replacement.

Speaking on the development, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geoffrey Onyeama told state house correspondents after the Federal Executive Council meeting yesterday, 14th March that the sack will not in any way affect Nigeria/US ties.

He says: “Rex Tillerson’s sack won’t affect Nigeria because a government is a continuum as we all know.

“When he came it was the United States that was speaking and clearly we expect that with every expectation that everything he has said as regards US/Nigeria relations reflects the position of the United States so we don’t see any change happening,” he adds.
