10 blacklisted Nollywood actors and actresses, see reasons

Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing recently joined the list of blacklisted Nollywood actors and actresses, here is a list of 10 celebrities who have gotten the treatment at one time or the other.

Nollywood actors and actresses over the years have found themselves on the short end of the stick for actions considered not to have represented the industry in a proper manner. For some, it was due to what they stood for, and for others, it came without a meaningful reason.

The list was recently updated with Nollywood actresses Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing being told they have been blacklisted for “breaking numerous rules”.

According to Legit.ng, the duo will no longer be contacted by Nollywood filmmakers who are under the umbrella of Theater Arts and Motion Pictures Practitioners Association of Nigeria, (TAMPAN).

Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing got in this predicament after being very vocal about Omiyinka Olanrewaju aka Baba Ijesha’s alleged abuse case involving a minor.

According to the association, TAMPAN, Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing erred because they spoke against the association following Baba Ijesha posting bail. The actresses have been yanked off their platform.

TAMPAN was created in February 2014 after there was a big disagreement in the Association of Nigerian Theatre Arts Practitioners, ANTP. The association was created in Lagos and its sole reason was to protect the interest of its members.

Ever since its establishment in 2014, there has yet to be a record of TAMPAN sanctioning any of its members but now, Iyabo Ojo and Nkechi Blessing have been made the scapegoat.

Jide Kosoko, speaking on behalf of the association, said, “We particularly observe di continuous derogatory statements that Iyabo Ojo made against the Association and the industry as a whole. Unfortunately, Nkechi Blessing has also joined the verbal attack on the Association and by extension, the industry and we say enough is enough.”

1. Omotola Jalade Ekehinde

Omotola Jalade Ekehinde was once blacklisted in the film industry

A few years back, Nollywood veteran actress, Omotola Jalade Ekehinde was among the top A-list actors and actresses blacklisted from the movie industry for charging exorbitant fees and not fulfilling duties. This happened 13 years ago in September 2004, and the ban lasted a whole year. However it helped Omotola delve into a career in music.

2. Ramsey Nouah

Richard Mofe-Damijo was part of the actors and actresses banned by Nollywood film marketers. The decision was referred to as the G8 ban. According to Pulse’s Charles Novia, the ban was ostensible because the affected actors demanded huge sums but didn’t deliver as was expected. This ban led to the entrance of many new stars into Nollywood.

A three-year ban from the English-speaking part of the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood, was placed on the actress, Adunni Ade and she feels it is unjust.

The American-Nigerian actress explains how hurt she felt with the timing of the ban as it was at the time she was at the peak of her career as she stopped getting roles from casting directors or producers.

6. Jim Iyke

Jim Iyke might be one of the most controversial Nollywood actors ever and it would be odd if he didn’t make this list.

He also got on the wrong end of the stick for charging huge fees to feature in movies back then but a few years after it was lifted, he delved into the music industry and even released a song in 2009 titled “Who am I” featuring the legendary 2 Baba.

7. Iyabo Ojo

Iyabo Ojo’s ban is more recent and it had to do with how the association viewed her involvement with the sexual assault case involving one of its members.

TAMPAN has since reiterated that filmmakers are banned from working with the actress until further notice.

8. Nkem Owoh

Many know him as Osoufia and he was definitely a huge star back in the days. He was famous for the movie “Osoufia in London”. Nkem Owoh got blacklisted for the same reason 7 others were banned several years ago, guilty of “charging huge fees”.

But, as they say, one closed door opens room for more. He was also one actor who tried out music and was successful with his first project.

9. Stella Damasus
