First female northern Commodore, Jamila Malafa, decorated by the Nigerian Navy

First female northern Commodore in the history of the Nigeria Navy, Jamila Malafa, was decorated in an epoch-making event on Monday with the rank of Commodore, equivalent to a Brigadier General in the Army

 

The decoration ceremony of Commodore Malafa was witnessed by Vice President Yemi Osibanjo and Chief of Policy and Plans, Rear Admiral Henry Babalola, who represented the Chief of Naval Staff Vice Admiral Ibok-Ette Ibas. She was born in 1965 in Gombi LGA of Adamawa state and joined the navy in 1988,

Speaking at the ceremony, Real Admiral Babalola said only a few women will attain the rank in the Nigerian military. “It is a thing of pride and attaining this height, it is worth celebrating,” he says.

Commodore Malafa gave a vote of thanks at the end of the event and used the opportunity to reaffirm her total commitment to the Nigerian Navy.
