Her lamentation sprung up from the fact that her boobs have become too big and embarrassing and she even feels trapped inside sometimes. She says that wherever she went, people turned around to stare.
“My boobs affect the way I live and think. I even tried to kill myself. I can’t take this anymore,” says the 48-year- old identified as Nomusa Dladla from Inchanga, west of Durban, South Africa.
Nomusa narrated that her boobs began to grow in 2006, but couldn’t explain the reason why her shoulders and back would continually hurt. She said she at a point, felt ashamed of coming out because people began to call her mabele. She stated that she had to resign from her job because she became uncomfortable.
“In 2013 I stopped working because people would stare and laugh,” she says.
Nomusa’s husband left her because he became ashamed of her, but her children still live with her even though they are ashamed to bring their friends to the house.
“I used to wear size 30B. Now I make my own bra by adding material to my old ones.” She also stated that she has been going to the hospital for the last 7 years, but was told that she has to lose weight before she can be operated on.
A KZN Health spokeswoman, Ncumisa Mafunda, says: “National Health Act protects patient confidentiality. Patients can speak to public relations officers at hospital level regarding their concerns.”
