By 2022, the Titanic II which is a replica of the original is set to make its two-week maiden voyage. The ship will feature the same cabin layout as the original and will sail from Dubai to Southampton, England and then on to New York, tracing the North Atlantic route of its damned namesake. After its maiden voyage, the Titanic II will embark on other global routes.
“The ship will follow the original journey, carrying passengers from Southampton to New York, she will also circumnavigate the globe, inspiring and enchanting people while attracting unrivalled attention, intrigue, and mystery in every port she visits,” Blue Line chairman Clive Palmer said
The new ship which will carry almost the same number of passengers (2,400) and crew (900) as the original, but will use modern navigation and safety technology including lots of lifeboats. Rather than it being built in Belfast, Northern Ireland like the original, the replica will be built in China.
The construction was recently resumed after a financial dispute held up the $500 million project for several years.
