The former president passed away on Friday, the 28th of December at the National Hospital Abuja. He was 93 years old.
Shagari was president in the second republic, from 1979 to 1983, before he was overthrown in a coup by Muhammadu Buhari.
The news of his demise was broken by the Governor of Sokoto State, Aminu Tambuwal, on his Twitter page.
