The Super Eagles will be looking to beat the Argentine for the first in a World Cup match following a draw which saw Nigeria pitched against the South American country for the fifth time.

Nigeria’s Alex Iwobi and Argentina’s Javier Mascherano contest for ball possession during a friendly match in Russia

Four previous encounters saw the Super Eagles beaten by La Albiceleste all by one-goal margins (2-1 in 1994, 1-0 in 2002, 1-0 in 2010 and 3-2 in 2014). Nigeria have drawn Argentina four times out of their five World Cup campaigns. The most recent encounter saw Lionel Messi score a first-half brace to ultimately lead the Argentinians to a thrilling 3-2 win in Porto Alegre.
