A report was published by ThisDay alleging that Oyedepo was denied an American visa. They “gathered that the embassy did not give any other reason except the standard default explanation that the Bishop did not qualify for visa renewal in its assessment and urged him to try again”.
The news quickly spread and caused him to trend on social media as many wondered why he would be denied a visa.
Now, the US Embassy in Nigeria has tagged the news a false news alert. They shared on their official media handle that the news is not true and called on people to help correct the misinformation.
They tweeted: “#FalseNews Alert! Be advised, the reports making the rounds about a visa being denied to Nigerian Bishop Oyedepo are false.
“If you have seen this manufactured item in the media, help defeat this #misinformation by communicating to everyone that it is completely false.”
