Mattel, the makers of the popular doll, Barbie are proving that, unlike their counterparts, they are willing to support the fight for diversity.

After many years of making only one type of doll – the thin, blonde-haired Barbie, the makers are now diversifying to show kids what they are instead of only what they see around them.

To stress the importance of diversity, Mattel has widened its Fashionistas line to include different dolls of different sizes, colours, and abilities.

New dolls to join the lineup – bringing the total to 176 dolls – include a doll with the skin condition vitiligo, which causes pigmentation loss, as well as a Barbie doll with no hair.

There’s also a doll in a wheelchair as well as one with a prosthetic limb. The collection also includes a male Ken doll with long hair.
