Books are known to be your best friend for a reason. Reading helps a great deal in building your confidence, reduces your stress and puts you in good mood. Once you start it and make it your habit, you will eventually get addicted to it.
With that, let’s comb through some of the reasons that highlight the importance of a reading habit.
Matures the mind and enhances understanding.
The human mind, like we know, could be considered a muscle. It requires exercise. One way the mind grows in its ability is by understanding written words. Also, the more you read, the more you understand how things work, what to do, and what not to do. When you read materials that are related to your direction in life, it enhances and sharpens your understanding on that particular field of life.
Exposure to new things.
Reading is the main way for us to take advantage of the age we live in, an age overflowing with information. A reading habit can expose you to these pieces of information, expose you to new ideas, new hobbies, new ways of solving a problem, new lifestyles, etc. We can discover a whole lot through this singular act.
Helps to boost imagination and creativity.
Reading exposes you to a whole new world, a world of imagination and creativity. It goes further to show you that nothing, absolutely nothing, is impossible. With reading, one can go anywhere in this world. They can also become anything: a princess, a prince, a king, or a particular character they choose to become.
Helps in communication.
You and I know that communication is an important tool in our everyday living. Developing a reading habit will help you learn better communication skills, how to connect with people, and how to connect with the world. If you don’t know anything, you will have nothing to share.
Gain other people’s experiences.
It will interest you to know that, someone has been through that same path you want to tread. Life is too short for you to keep repeating the mistakes that have been done by other people in the past, in order for you to reach the results that someone might have reached already. Reading opens you up to other people’s experiences and helps to avoid unnecessary detours in yours. Do you have people you look up to? If yes, then I encourage you to read about them, their failures and successes.
According to Lailah Gifty Akita, “The act of reading is a skill that can be cultivated.”
