Coronavirus in Nigeria update: Total number of infections in Nigeria exceed 20,000

Nigeria has recorded an additional 436 coronavirus cases according to the latest data released by the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

The NCDC made the revelation during its nightly update on coronavirus in Nigeria via its Twitter handle on the 21st of June.

The new cases of coronavirus in Nigeria keeps increasing daily has exceeded 20,000.

According to the centre, the total number of coronavirus infections in the country now stands at 20,244. The centre also stated that 6,879 COVID-19 patients have recovered and been discharged from isolations centres across the country. COVID-19 is the disease caused by the coronavirus, known formally as SARS-Cov-2.

Meanwhile, 518 people have died from COVID-19 related complications. This means that the active number of confirmed coronavirus infections in Nigerians as of the night of Sunday 21st June 2020 was 12,847.

Taking to it’s Instagram page, NCDC tweets: “436 new cases of #COVID19Nigeria;

Lagos-169, Oyo-52, Plateau-31, Imo-29, Kaduna-28, Ogun-23, FCT-18, Enugu-18, Bauchi-17, Bayelsa-14, Rivers-8, Osun-6, Kano-6, Edo-5, Benue-5, Adamawa-3, Borno-2, Abia-1, Ekiti-1

20,244 confirmed, 6,879 discharged, 518 deaths

The NCDC also released data for the distribution of the disease across the states.
Lagos State has the highest confirmed cases at 8,576 while the FCT, Abuja is second with 1,567 cases. Kano State is third with 1,190 cases. Cross River remains the only state without any confirmed cases of Coronavirus.
