An explosion took place on Sunday, 15th March 2020 in Abule Ado, Festac area of Lago state, leaving the residents of the area shocked as some lives were lost while some properties were vandalised.

23 persons were confirmed dead, 586 displaced and hundreds of properties destroyed in the multiple blasts said to have been caused by a pipeline rupture.

The deputy governor of Lagos State, Dr Obafemi Hamzat, announced on Twitter that the families of the 23 deceased identified by the state have been presented with relief cheques.

Announcing the donation on Twitter, Dr Obafemi Hamzat writes:

Today we presented cheques to the families of the 23 deceased victims of the Abule-Ado explosion. We hope the money will help provide some relief even as they miss their loved ones. We are also working with safety, power & other stakeholders to find a lasting solution to issues.

This is indeed some goodwill gesture by the state government even though the money will not bring back the dead but it might at least provide some practical assistance to these mourning.

The Lagos State depot governor also shared some pictures from the cheque presentations.
